Pixion Awarded Definitive Patent for its PictureTalk WebConferencing Solution

Pixion’s Robust Client-Server-Client Architecture Delivers Secure, Scalable, Cost-Effective Interactive Meetings

Pleasanton, CA, April 2, 2002 – Pixion, Inc., the world leader in Client-Server-Client™ (CSC) Web conferencing solutions, today announced that it has been awarded a patent for its CSC technology.

This broad-reaching patent, which covers key aspects of real-time multi-point, multi-speed, multi-stream scalability for computer conferencing systems, is the cornerstone of Pixion’s PictureTalk™ Web conferencing solution. PictureTalk is the only native cross-platform CSC Web conferencing solution, offering superior ROI, flexibility and scalability compared with existing peer-to-peer and traditional client-server Web conferencing technologies.

“PictureTalk represents a new approach to interactive, Web-based communications – one that strives to make Web conferencing as easy, cost-effective and ubiquitous as e-mail,” said Robert DeKoning, president and CEO of Pixion. “Designed to be a logical extension of an organization’s communication infrastructure, PictureTalk allows companies to recoup their investment within months, and delivers continuous cost savings by improving employee productivity, minimizing travel requirements, and by eliminating the recurring costs of conducting meetings via conventional hosted solutions.”

The intelligence built into Pixion’s PictureTalk CSC architecture senses varying network transmission speeds, enabling the system to automatically allocate system resources as needed. In addition, PictureTalk is aware of the presenters’ and attendees’ individual platforms and viewing requirements, allowing the system to automatically prioritize and allocate the flow of data, maximizing bandwidth and ensuring that interactive meetings provide the best possible user experience. This unique design eliminates network bottlenecks typically associated with peer-to-peer technologies, which limit the performance of Web meetings to that of the slowest participant’s Internet connection.

“The granting of this patent confirms the unparalleled benefits that our technology offers large and small businesses,” said John Heng, director of engineering at Pixion. “Based on our unique CSC architecture, PictureTalk delivers a superior experience for interactive meetings of all sizes, while eliminating the performance degradation and scalability issues associated with alternative Web conferencing solutions. ”

Designed to run on any client platform, including Windows, Macintosh and Solaris, PictureTalk features Pixion’s unique Capture Frame® presentation tool to provide unparalleled ease-of-use and control. With Capture Frame, meeting presenters can capture information in real-time right from their desktop, and easily share and collaborate over the Internet with an unlimited number of attendees.

PictureTalk is designed for a wide range of business applications, including software sales, customer support, product demonstrations, professional training and distance education.

The United States Patent #6,343,313 was granted to Pixion in January 2002. Visit http://www.uspto.gov/patft/index.html for more information.
